Toni Smith came to papermaking via 20 years as a potter and photographer and believes that there is a subtle correlation between these activities – all based on water in some form– so the fact that her star sign is Cancer might have some relevance.
She fell in love with plant fibre paper during her first workshop, particularly fine translucent papers, and combines these with leaves, feathers etc. in book forms and 3-D objects.
She has exhibited in N.S.W., Queensland, Victoria and Minnesota, and has tutored at Primrose Paperworks in Sydney and in June 2003 at the University of Idaho.
